CSCW 2012 Papers & Notes

Monday, April 4th, 2011

The ACM Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Media is a premier venue for presenting research in the design and use of technologies that affect groups, organizations, and communities. CSCW encompasses both the technical and social challenges encountered when supporting collaboration. The development and application of new technologies continues to enable new ways of working together and coordinating activities. Although work is an area of focus, CSCW embraces research and technologies supporting a wide range of recreational and social activities using a diverse range of devices. The conference brings together top researchers and practitioners from academia and industry who are interested in both technical and social aspects of collaboration.

CSCW 2012 will be held February 11-15, 2012, in Seattle, Washington, USA. The deadline for Papers & Notes submission is June 3; titles and abstracts of Papers & Notes must be submitted by May 27.

The early submission date of June 3 reflects a new review process, wherein authors of promising submissions will be given a month to revise their 10-page Papers and/or 4-page Notes to address concerns raised by reviewers and increase their potential for achieving the level of clear contribution required for a CSCW Paper or Note. We have instituted this process to promote greater diversity while maintaining the high level of quality expected of CSCW Papers and Notes. Only complete submissions will be reviewed, and not all submissions will be eligible for revision, but we hope that the opportunity for revision in some cases may help prospective authors from outside the traditional CSCW community to structure the presentation of their work in a format that is better aligned with CSCW standards.

The complete Call for Participation, including information about Workshops, CSCW Horizon, Demonstrations, Panels, Posters, Videos, the Doctoral Colloquium, and Student Volunteers – as well as Papers and Notes – can be found at cscw2012.org. You can also follow announcements about the conference on Twitter, @ACM_CSCW2012, or “like” us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/CSCW2012.

We look forward to your participation!

IMM’s Linked Data Challenge 2001

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

IMM logoThe aim of this challenge is to create an incentive for linking information in novel and ingenious ways to foster the knowledge discovery process and deliver end-user benefits.

The challenge will also demonstrate to delegates the potential value in linking datasets. The Institute of Metadata Management (IMM) is now inviting submissions of web applications that perform mash-ups on raw and / or linked data, via novel mechanisms or technologies, and that showcase the benefits of Linked Data to end-users.

You can find all the information about the challenge at http://www.metalounge.org/linked_data_mashup_challenge2011

INSEMTIVES is proud sponsor of .Astronomy 3

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

We are happy to announce that INSEMTIVES is new sponsor of the upcoming .Astronomy 3 conference in Oxford, UK, April 4-6, 2011.

About .Astronomy 3:

Networking and sharing ideas has never been so easy. Astronomers are using the internet to distribute, access and analyse data. The tools that make this possible are being created and developed all over the world – at home, in businesses and at universities – often in people’s spare time. The .Astronomy conference aims to bring together this international community of researchers, developers, educators and communicators to showcase and build upon these many web-based projects, from outreach and education to research tools and data analysis.

.Astronomy 3 will be held at New College, Oxford from the 4th to the 6th of April 2011. There will be 50 spaces at this three-day conference, where participants will learn, create and be inspired. Networking and sharing ideas has never been so easy. The Internet has created an environment that allows information and ideas to merge and evolve, allowing the rapid creation of new tools and resources…

CFP IUI2011 Workshop: Visual Interfaces to the Social and Semantic Web (VISSW 2011)

Monday, September 27th, 2010

In conjunction with the 3rd International Workshop on Visual Interfaces to the Social and Semantic Web (VISSW 2011) at the ACM Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI 2011) there is a call for papers:

TOPICS OF INTEREST

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Interfaces
    • Novel interfaces for high-volume transient data, e.g. feeds, streams and sensors.
    • Novel interfaces supporting discovery of social data and richer interactions using Facebook’s Open Graph Protocol, Twitter Annotations for tweets, Google’s Social Graph etc.
    • ‘Living’ interfaces tconstantly evolving data, vocabularies, and emerging links between them.
    • Collaborative interfaces supporting social data analysis.
    • Adaptive user interfaces on the Web.
    • Lightweight components and processes for casual users tpublish/share their own content on the Web.
    • Task-centric interfaces for structured and/or Linked Data.
    • Novel visualisation of structured, linked and aggregated data, originating from multiple sources.
    • Interface components for displaying/interacting with aggregated, heterogeneous Linked Data, e.g. components for displaying provenance information.
    • Ontology-based visualization of collections of data.
  • Interaction Paradigms
    • Novel (e.g. touch-based, gesture-based, etc.) interaction paradigms for textual, photos, music, videos, etc. on various platforms (e.g. mobile devices, set-top boxes, shared/public single/multiple displays).
    • Investigation of task-centric interaction paradigms beyond search and browse.
    • Novel interaction paradigms with structured, linked and aggregated data.
    • Ontology-based interaction with collections of data.
    • Semantic models for interaction and their reuse on the web
  • Empirical Studies and Evaluation
    • Use cases which present novel visualization requirements and expose interesting interaction challenges on the Social and Semantic Web.
    • Empirical studies that can guide the development of interfaces for Linked Data.
    • Implications for design from user-studies, pilot systems and live deployments in the Social and Semantic Web

The deadline is 8th of November 2010. For any further information please check the homepage of the workshop.
