11th of Mai, the company Knowledge Hive published the Polish DBpedia !

DBpedia Poland, being a part of the international project DBpedia, gives access to information in Polish Wikipedia in accordance with the Linked Open Data standard.
It is envisioned that soon DBpedia Poland will become an important source of knowledge for various systems and applications using Semantic Web technologies, and in the future, will become a central node in the Linked Open Data cloud.

The LOV dataset contains the description of RDFS vocabularies or OWL ontologies defined for and used by datasets in the Linked Data Cloud. Whenever available each vocabulary includes references to the datasets using it, in particular those listed in CKAN. The descriptions use in particular the VOAF vocabulary to state different ways such vocabularies can rely on, extend, specify, annotate or otherwise link to each other, and reuse a lot of vocabularies it describes, such asDublin Core, voiD, BIBO, and many more.

Clicking on the vocabulary’s namespaces (including the balloons), the user can navigate the vocabularies and get further information about them.

The aim of this challenge is to create an incentive for linking information in novel and ingenious ways to foster the knowledge discovery process and deliver end-user benefits.

The challenge will also demonstrate to delegates the potential value in linking datasets. The Institute of Metadata Management (IMM) is now inviting submissions of web applications that perform mash-ups on raw and / or linked data, via novel mechanisms or technologies, and that showcase the benefits of Linked Data to end-users.

Lexvo.org brings information about languages, words, characters, and other human language-related entities to the Linked Data Web and Semantic Web. Lexvo.org adds a new perspective to this Web by exposing how everything in our world is connected in terms of language, e.g. by considering semantic relationships between multilingual labels (like book or New York). Lexvo not only defines global IDs (URIs) for language-related objects, but also ensures that these identifiers are dereferenceable and highly interconnected as well as externally linked to a variety of resources on the Web. Some of the main features up to date:

• Identifiers for terms in specific languages linked to many external resources (WordNet, thesauri, ontologies, etc.). Examples: English ‘school’, Chinese ‘朋友’
• Over 7,000 language identifiers with names in many languages, links to script URIs, geographic region URIs, etc. Examples: Spanish, Afrikaans, Oriya, Taungyo
• Script URIs identify scripts such as the Latin and Cyrillic scripts, Indian Devanagari, or the Korean Hangul system.
• Character URIs based on the Unicode standard, linked to script URIs, with semantic information about CJK characters. Examples: U+5A34, U+0047 (‘G’)
• Also: ISO 3166-1 / UN M.49 geographical regions (example), WordNet 3.0 (example), KangXi radicals (example), etc.

“The Vienna-based company punkt. netServices is just about to release a demo version of their PoolParty service, a SKOS-based thesaurus management tool with linked data capabilities. I had the chance to pre-read a white paper and test their service. Here is a brief overview. You can also try a demo.

PoolParty is aiming to be easy to use for people without a strong Semantic Web background or special technical skills. The GUI is entirely web-based and utilizes AJAX so the user can e.g. quickly merge two concepts via drag & drop. An overview over the thesaurus can be gained with a tree or a graph view on the concepts.

PoolParty also helps to semi-automatically add concepts to a thesaurus as it can be used to analyse documents (e.g. web pages or PDF files) relevant to a thesaurus’ domain in order to glean candidate terms.“
